I very much enjoyed this book. Written from the perspective of a young lawyer unknowingly caught in a net of deceit, the author spins a good story that keeps God in the forefront without being preachy or religious. I like that. There is a little romance, but it is low key (and clean) and doesn't hijack the story. The book is fairly well written, but -- and here is the reason for 4-stars instead of 5 -- I did find myself wishing for better character development and a deeper, more involved plot evolution. I found myself wondering why the author restrained himself to the perspective of only one character. There was plenty of opportunity to switch point of view through the course of the story to fill out the plot, further develop the characters and enrich the story line. All that said, this is still a well-written book, far outshines most Christian fiction and I highly recommend it.Tags : Water's Edge [Robert Whitlow] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers.
Sometimes small towns hold the biggest secrets.

Ambitious young attorney Tom Crane is about to become a partner in a high-profile Atlanta law firm. Suspense built throughout the book, and just as so much was being resolved (it seemed), new and unexpected developments thrust the plot forward. I could not put the book down and read it in one sitting! Thorough development of characters and setting and amazing combination of the forces of evil and God’s grace as good overcomes evil! The inclusion of specific scriptures added so much to the plot and the change in Tom’s character.
I am a Robert Whitlow fan and have waited a long time fo this new book. It was worth the wait.
We get real life characters with real life stories that are very believable and well developed. Thomas Crane is a young lawyer with a very promising future, or at least thats what he thinks. But his world is about to fall apart. His father drowns in a fishing accident, he looses his job (to employee reduction) and his girl friend dumps him, and adds insult to injury she takes his cat with her.
Thomas returns to Bethel to close down his fathers law practice. So maybe the job loss was good timing so that he can get this done. But returning to his old home town has it's on set of issues. Not only is he grieving his father but he will finally end up facing and dealing with the grief of his mothers death from years before.
He and his dog move in with his great-uncle, a retired preacher. This where the good Christian overtones start. Thomas is faced with his lack of faith and disregard for God. He has to face the expectations of friends that he will follow in his fathers Christian footsteps and the practice of law.
Thomas doesn't want anything to do with religion. But strange things happen and he starts to enjoy reading the Bible and talking with God. He also discovers that his father was a peacemaker with clients using Biblical methods of reconciliation and forgiveness to mediate legal issues between parties.
Woven in all this is a subplot of murder and deception as well as a love interest that is complicated. The complication is that Thomas has an awakening of his relationship with Christ that leaves him a changed man. But Satan in all his wisdom tries to throw a roadblock in Thomas path through a past love interest. Satan also throws in a conflict with a potential highly paying client. These distractions just might derail the new faith that Thomas has found.
The story will keep you interested to the end. Will Thomas find that his father was a righteous man? Will he find that the man that died with his dad is also a righteous man? Will he follow the Lord's leading and do the right thing? Will he fall in love with the right girl? Will he take a lucrative attorney position in Atlanta or stay and practice law in his small home town?
Those and many other questions will keep you turning pages. Thank you Robert for a very good story and also for good lessons about our love for and trust in Jesus Christ.
Tom had a great job at an investment firm and was expecting to make partner, when he was let go. His best friend, Mark got the job. Tom had just heard from a company wanting to have Tom's "old" company handle their account, so when they found out Tom had lost his job they wanted him to handle it anyway.
Tom's father, a small town lawyer had died in a boating accident, even tho he was an excellent swimmer, so Tom had to go "home" to settle his father's office To add insult to injury, Tom's girl friend dropped him when she found out he had lost his job
Tom went to Bethel to close his father's office and got involved in an embezzelment, double murder, and, during all this, became a Christian. The mystery of the guilty party took many strange turns, Tom found a wonderful new girlfriend, he ended up in jail accused of murder and embezzelment, which kept the interest up throughout the book. The ending was a surprise - I had not guessed it at all.
I recommend this book to all. It was very good.
It has been quite a while sense I read a Robert Whitlow book. I had forgotten how exciting his books are. I need to read more of them. This book has a lot of different aspect about it. I became attached to this simple little town and the people in it. It's about how God works in situations, how prayer works, it's about a legacy of a parent. It's about a changed heart, a death, the justice system, grace, it's about making decisions. I could go on and on. Thank you Robert Whitlow for an amazing read that kept me engaged in the story and thanks for lessons learned. This won't be the last Robert Whitlow book I read!
