The Lone Warrior Once Upon a Time in West Lori Austin 9780451242327 Books
The Lone Warrior is my first book by this author and although being part of a series I read this book first and it didn’t matter that I hadn’t read the first of the series. One thing I discovered by the time I reached the end is the I definitely wanted to go back and read the earlier books. This author is simply, in one word, great. The setting is the old west with a damaged, although sexy hero who survived being a captive of the Cheyenne. The brave and strong heroine is no measly miss but needing help to rescue Lily from the Cheyenne. The couple faces danger and steamy sexual tension while undertaking the rescue mission.
Lily, the heroine’s daughter, is taken captive by the Cheyenne and staying strong she sets out to rescue her. Who better, she believes, could help her other than an ex-captive of the Indians, Luke, the hero. As a result of his past experiences Luke has problems of his own and has no interest in going down that road again and wants nothing to do with getting that close to the Cheyenne again. Rose, the heroine, being headstrong and determined, will not take no for an answer.
The roadblocks and issues the couple must face on their journey reveals that everything is not a bed of roses and helps them develop strength and hope through each other. The hero had to, throughout his past, literally fight to stay alive and meeting a woman who is not afraid to fight to get what she needs or wants or believes in is surprising to him. And Rose is definitely that, as she is every inch a female warrior willing to fight, and even faces death several times, to gain back her family. The trials they endure will provide a strong foundation that will last them a lifetime, if they can survive.
The author grabs your attention from the start and holds it until the end with all the events throughout the book. The reader actually feels as if they become part of the story and you will remember the characters long after having read the book. The story is not a fairy tale but creates a picture of living within the period of time. The hero and heroine helps each other overcome damaged pasts and through trials develop love towards each other. Nothing is predictable throughout the story and each character and event is absolutely believable.
This author deserves grand applause for presenting a believable romance while maintaining harsh dangers and reality of the time period. This will not be the only book I read by Lori Austin.
The third book in the exciting and sexy "Once Upon A Time In The West" Series from Lori Austin.

The Lone Warrior Once Upon a Time in West Lori Austin 9780451242327 Books Reviews
Overall, this was a good story, lost it a couple times. Not the best of this author I 've read. But worth reading. Wimpy in some parts.
Haven't read an "indian" love story in many years, this one is was worth the wait. Acceptance is never easy, especially in the 1800's. Fast paced, you won't be disappointed.
was a good book i enjoyed it very much
I had not read a Western for some time. I really enjoyed this book. The people in the book did not follow the standard hero and heroine mode. The information on the Native Americans and the Calvary was very interesting. I had not read the two previous books in the series but did not feel it was necessary to understand the story.
Lori Austin surely does her research and the Western setting of The Lone Warrior is as amazing as her characters. Rose shows courage and resilience in the face of a slew of obstacles. I was cheering for her from the start. Luke is a hunk on horseback. What more needs to be said? An entertaining read.
Parts of it were slow. Luke has memory losses. Some things happen he’s not aware of. He speaks as if he is hallucinating. It’s like PTSD but it wasn’t called that back then or in this book. He also grieves the deaths of loved ones. All this created murky delays and conflicts. He was attracted to Rose, but she didn’t know it. Instead she told herself falsehoods like he is so repulsed by me that he did such-and-such. I was depressed with the US military killing masses of Indians including women and children.
The overall idea was good and the characters were good. But other things were not working for me.
DATA
Narrative mode 3rd person. Story length 311 pages. Swearing language mild. Sexual language none other than the f-word used once. Number of sex scenes 2. Setting 1865 and 1871 Kansas and Colorado. Copyright 2014. Genre western historical romance.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and this series as a whole. From chapter one of book one this series has thrown me off guard, and this book was no different. This series does not romanticize 'The West' like so many historical romance novels. Oh no! It is gritty and hard and most of the times the people there live lives full of pain and misfortune. This series is about those people and how they have fought back and found love in the process.
This book is about Luke (Annabeth's missing brother we heard about mostly in book two) and Rose who needs help finding her missing daughter whom the Cheyenne kidnapped. Rose seeks out Luke because of rumors that he once lived with the Cheyenne so she hopes he will help her find the tribe and hopefully her daughter as well. Luke, having been a prisoner in both the Civil War and to the Cheyenne, knows that going back will be the death of him, but since he already believes that he has nothing left to lives for he agrees to help Rose find her daughter.
I am so sad this series is coming to an end, but I hear rumor of a novella coming out later this year. Moze maybe? Or Mikhail? I don't know, but I am looking forward to it as well as anything else Lori Austin cooks up.
