This book is ridiculous, I don’t quite understand why I even bothered finishing it. The “plot” consists of contrived, unbelievable situations and ridiculous coincidence upon coincidence upon coincidence. It would probably take me the equivalent length of the book to list all the inconsistancies & silliness in the story, so I’ll just itemise a few that I found particularly grating. Our heroine has recently discovered that she was adopted and that her birth mother “may” have come from Graveyard Falls, so on that basis, she has upped sticks and relocated to some random town in Tennessee, in the hope of finding the erstwhile mother, 30 years on. I can only assume she had no life or friends, wherever she previously lived (it may well be mentioned but I can’t remember or didn’t care enough to notice) even though she is supposedly a loving, caring and compassionate person. Just coincidently, her late & as it turns out, fairly unlamented husband, happened to have been carrying on a secret life, in the same town. As part of her search, she identifies 3 women through a public records search, who were pregnant teenagers & gave birth at the right time. We soon discover that one of the women in question was thrown out of home and eventually gave birth, on her own, to a stillborn baby, which she buried on the woods. Are we really meant to believe that a (presumably) frightened, traumatised teenager, with no family support then waltzed into the local Public Records Office (or whatever the American equivalent is) and registered the birth? Or that no one ever queried what happened to the baby? This woman also happens to be one of 2 claiming that the man accused of 3 murders 30 years prior, was the father of her child. That poor guy sure had lousy Karma! In the story of the 30 year old murders we have, as a major part of the plot, notes written to the 3 victims, which apparently no one ever bothered to check for handwriting matches. The implication is that handwriting analysis wasn’t very advanced, back in the dark ages of the 1970s. Whilst DNA analysis may have been in it’s infancy, the 1970’s wasn’t exactly the dark ages and handwriting analysis had been around for a lot of years, even then. A lot people seem to have liked this book, but I’m not one of them.Tags : All the Beautiful Brides (Graveyard Falls) [Rita Herron] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Great book! I loved it. A serial killer is killing young women in Graveyard Falls and dressing them up as brides. There were murders in the town 30 years ago, but that killer is in prison. These could not be related, could they? It was very interesting how the author was able to intermix all of the stories going on within the big story. It is well-written with great character. I am excited to read the next Graveyard Falls book. I recommend this book!
This book is based on an intricate plot and thankfully the story used to reveal the plot is almost as good as the plot making this an excellent book. The two main characters are people the reader will find easy to like making the story even more enjoyable. A young FBI agent is sent to investigate a current murder which appears to be related to a series of murders thirty years ago. As his investigation proceeds the case becomes more involved as a series of subplots add to the drama. There are some sexual references which from reading customer reviews is a big deal for some people.
This was the first book I've ever read by this author and I liked it enough that I will probably read the next in the series.
A body is found near the base of a waterfall. Thirty years previously, 3 high school girls bodies were found in almost the same spot. The FBI sends an agent to help with the investigation because of the similarities. Mona, a Counselor, who recently found out she had been adopted and whose deceased husband was best friends with FBI Agent Cal (the one sent to investigate) has also come to Graveyard Falls in search of her birth mother.
The mystery of the murders is the main plot of the book and definitely keeps you guessing. Cal and Mona get together and there is some romance (and sex).
I was pretty sure I knew who Mona's birth mother was and I was right ... but the murderer was more difficult to figure out. The ending was good and tied up everything nicely.
ALL THE BEAUTIFUL BRIDES was a fast paced romantic suspense and is the first book in Rita Herron's "Graveyard Falls" series. There was a ton of stuff going on and at times I felt a bit on overload, but on the positive side at least I was never bored. It's the story of Mona Monroe who after the death of her husband three months ago, moves to the small town of Graveyard Falls to find her birth mother. Cal Coulter is an FBI agent, her husband's former partner and best friend, and he's also been in love with Mona for as long as he's known her. When a young woman is found murdered in a way reminiscent to a trio of teenage murders thirty years ago, Cal is called in to investigate. As he and Mona re-connect and work together to try and stop a deranged killer, Cal will have to protect her too or she may just become the Bride Killer's next victim.
This book was definitely intriguing and although not perfect, was still an enjoyable read. The story is told from many different viewpoints, but mostly from the three main characters Cal, Mona, and the killer. I really liked Cal and Mona, though I don't think her character was as fleshed out and her actions and reactions didn't always ring true to me. While some parts were predictable, there were plenty of twists and turns too and a killer I never saw coming. Lies, secrets, and deceptions abound which kept me guessing and on my toes. I still have questions about Mona's husband however, and the romance was slow going at first and then rushed later, but still sweet. Overall it was a pretty solid mystery with a lot of interesting characters and an ending that was a long time coming. I'm already looking forward to Agent Hamrick and Josie's story next =)
